People’s awareness on environmental issues expands with every year and with it an interest in sorting household waste. Thus, it is important to reiterate the principles for sorting waste in order to keep our environment clean and to promote waste recycling and reusing.

This spring, Tallinn will give out a total of 125 kits of sorted waste collection boxes to 24 city institutions for the purpose of improving and promoting waste sorting in city-managed institutions.

In the upcoming weekend and the following weekend, namely 13-14 May and 20-21 May, Tallinn residents can dispose of both hazardous waste and reusable items during the collection round near their homes.

As of 1 June, collecting biological waste by type has become mandatory for all Tallinn properties regardless of intended purpose or number of apartments. Around two-thirds of city residents are collecting biological waste by type as of 1 June.

During the weekends of October 21-22 and October 28-29, Tallinn residents can dispose of hazardous waste and reusable items at local collection events.

The Tallinn Strategic Management Office will be examining the quality of waste sorting over the last two days of October and in November, and will be advising the residents of Tallinn on the proper separation of organic waste.

Separate collection of waste is the only way to ensure better recycling opportunities for different types of waste, thereby saving both the environment and resources. Tallinn residents can dispose of separately collected packaging at their place of origin or at public packaging points.

This May, Tallinn hosts its spring collection rounds for hazardous waste and reusable items during two weekends—May 11-12 and May 18-19.

In May, the Tallinn Waste Centre (Jäätmekeskus) organized two campaigns for the free collection of waste. The hazardous waste and reusable items collection rounds took place on two consecutive weekends, May 11–12 and May 18–19. The large waste free disposal campaign was held from May 6 to 12.
