Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart met today in Brussels with Patrick Child, the EU Commission’s Deputy Director-General for Environment, to focus on the implementation of the European Green Deal for cities and related European initiatives.

The Tallinn City Government has introduced new social benefits from next year, with an increase in the start-of-school allowance for second-graders from €50 to €75 and an increase in the pension supplement for pensioners from €150 to €175 to compensate for price rises. It also introduces a per capita income ceiling for social assistance and increases the rent allowance and the rate of compensation for the cost of adapting housing.

The Tallinn City Government has decided to increase several social benefit rates from January 1, 2024. Previously, both the child and parent needed to be registered at the same address, but starting next year, it will suffice if both the parent and children are registered as Tallinn residents.

The international sustainable tourism destinations conference Green Destinations 2023 is being held in Tallinn, the European Green Capital 2023. During the conference, a cooperation memorandum for a green corridor between Estonia and Finland was signed. Several Estonian tourism destinations have been part of the Green Destinations network for four years now.
